Refusing to Fold, Online Poker Players Bet on Prohibition Repeal (Wired, 05/21/07)
“Anyone who thinks poker isn’t a game of skill should see Boy Wonder playing Texas hold ’em online from his D.C. apartment. The 24-year-old sharp starts with six tables. Then eight, then 11. He folds. He checks. He raises. New windows pop up on his monitor like whack-a-moles. Boy Wonder doesn’t even break a sweat. This is a job to him.”

Citadel, FirePay asset seizures pay out for the DOJ (The Register, 05/20/07)
“The US Department of Justice (DOJ) continued its orgy of online gambling asset seizures this week, issuing seizure warrants for $9.25 mil from Citadel Commerce and $4.2 mil from FirePay. Both companies are Canadian, and neither is currently taking money from American gamblers. The fact that both companies have already withdrawn from the US market, at least as far as servicing the online gambling world goes, is irrelevant for the DOJ. Criminal statutes of limitations being what they are in the US, people all over the globe could well find themselves in hot water for years with American authorities.”

Table games early voting begins (The Journal, 05/21/07)
“Voters were able to begin casting their ballots for or against table games Friday at the Jefferson County Courthouse, where nearly 150 people braved the rainy weather to take advantage of early voting. Matthew Barney, who serves as deputy clerk of voter registration, said Friday afternoon that voting seemed to be getting off to a good start.”

press release:

National Effort Launched To Promote Regulated Internet Gambling (Safe & Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, 05/17/07)
“A national initiative was launched today to support new legislation introduced by Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) to license and regulate Internet gambling. The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative will raise awareness about the need for a regulated environment where Americans can pursue their popular recreational activities in the privacy of their homes. The Initiative will mobilize voters across the country online to support the bill.”
