“Roswell police arrested 27 people in an overnight raid on a high-stakes poker game in an upscale neighborhood off Holcomb Bridge Road. The raid on a home on Nesbit Ridge Drive near Centennial High School capped a six-month investigation into the operation, which police said charged players $10,000 to enter the weekly, Monday night games of Texas Hold’em and other games. Roswell police Sgt. B.C. Brackett said that when officers entered the house overnight, they found players gambling around three tables in the basement of the house.”

“All four counties have scheduled special elections June 9, triggering speculation the West Virginia Family Foundation, a conservative Christian group that is leading the opposition, would seek injunctions to block them. Ray Lambert of Beckley, the group’s chairman, acknowledged the foundation is considering an injunction to prevent any of the four counties from having an election, but other legal options are in hand.”

“Video lottery games could be installed at the state’s roughly 25 existing pari-mutuel facilities, bringing in revenue of between $1 billion and $2 billion, under a bill approved Monday by a Senate committee. The bill (SB 2434) was approved by a 7-1 vote in the Senate Regulated Industries Committee…The Senate bill would allow similar machines – including traditional card games and poker – to be installed in other areas of the state that have pari-mutuel facilities.”
